Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to the questions we are most frequently asked.
Can I deduct the financial contributions I send to GOOD ANGEL from my taxes? What kind of receipts do I need for that purpose?
Under the Income Tax Act, both legal entities and individuals may deduct donations (apart from other items) made to legal entities domiciled in the territory of the Czech Republic or any EU member state for social, humanitarian and charity purposes. The GOOD ANGEL endowment fund is involved in precisely those activities, and moreover, all of the contributions received from Good Angels are verifiably forwarded to families in financial difficulties. Therefore, all donations provided to us by Good Angels are deductible under the Income Tax Act without reservation. GOOD ANGEL will always provide you with a receipt for the donations received in each concluded tax period – i.e. for all of the contributions that you have sent to GOOD ANGEL’s account in the previous year. However, further information can be found in the section entitled: “Tax Deductibility of Donations”.
Can I really trust the GOOD ANGEL system?
We understand that, in this day and age, many of you may be skeptical that this project is not a cover for something else, and that GOOD ANGEL system was indeed formed with the pure intention to help. The system in the Czech Republic was founded by two friends, Petr Sýkora and Jan Černý, who put their own money obtained through the sale of their company, PAPIRIUS, into the project. Andrej Kiska, the founder of the Slovak GOOD ANGEL (in operation in Slovakia since 2006) assisted them. Why not test the system to see for yourself how it works? Try sending an amount, no matter how small, and on the first business day of the following month, you will see the name and address of the family with a child, in which a member is suffering from an oncological or other serious illness, to whom we have sent your contribution, down to the last cent. As far as larger contributions are concerned, your contribution may be divided between several families, in which case you will see all of them, together with a breakdown of your contribution.
What is the usual amount of a contribution?
There is no minimum or maximum amount set for monthly contributions, and it is entirely up to you to make the decision in light of your financial situation. Other donors – Good Angels – usually contribute around CZK 200. However, we value and appreciate all donors equally, regardless of the amount of their monthly contribution.
Can I send contributions sporadically?
Yes, GOOD ANGEL is a voluntary system, and you make no commitment to contribute up to any specific date. Naturally, we would be glad if you could contribute regularly, every month, and for as long as possible. However, we do understand that you may sometimes simply be unable to send a contribution. The amount of your contribution may also vary each month. You may discontinue, end or renew your regular monthly contributions at any time. You may also make one-time contributions to the GOOD ANGEL system. All of the contributions received from donors during a particular month are divided between those in need as early as the first business day of the following month, down to the last cent.
How do I know that the recipient is really ill and is depending on this kind of assistance?
Making a fair selection of recipients is one of the hardest tasks in the GOOD ANGEL financial assistance system. That is why we decided to leave the final selection of recipients solely to medical experts working directly with seriously ill people, who are able to make an objective assessment of their social status. Members of the Management Board, Supervisory Board and staff of the GOOD ANGEL non-profit organization and their family members shall never decide on the selection of financial aid recipients.
Does the donor have any say in who receives their contribution?
In filling out the Good Angel online registration form, the donor, Good Angel, can choose whether they would like to help a single recipient family, or whether their contribution will go to a different recipient each month, so as to ensure that all recipients receive roughly the same amount of assistance. If you, as a donor, would like to help a family in your region, or someone with a particular type of illness, please let us know by e-mail and we will naturally try to honor your wish.
If I know a person suffering from a serious illness and would like to help them by means of a regular monthly contribution, is that an option?
Yes, that is possible. However, the ill person must first obtain a recommendation from a specialist in order to be registered in the GOOD ANGEL system. Families may also seek financial assistance directly by email at [email protected]. If you are not sure whether the person concerned is eligible for admission into the GOOD ANGEL system, kindly contact us first.
You say that I will be able to see who I am helping. What, how and where can I learn something about them?
When the donor logs in to their Good Angel personal account at www.dobryandel.cz the donor will be able to see information concerning each recipient of their contributions. In addition to contact and basic information, the donor can also read a brief life story of the recipient, including regular semi-annual updates, and can see photographs of the recipient, if provided.
If I don’t want the family that I am supporting to know anything about me, can I remain anonymous?
Yes, you can. The donor will always know the name and address of the recipient they are supporting. The recipient, however, will only know the name and address of the donor with the donor’s consent. You can change your consent settings in your Good Angel profile at any time.
Can this project be supported by people outside the Czech Republic who would like to remain anonymous?
Yes, the donor system is also open to people living outside the Czech Republic. If they wish, they can be registered in the GOOD ANGEL system anonymously, with just an identification number.
Can both individuals and legal entities become donors?
Yes, of course. Legal entities can now provide their name and business identification number in a special box created for that purpose. Moreover, income tax deductions are available to both individuals and legal entities in the Czech Republic.
Does the financial assistance apply to diseases other than cancer?
Yes, since May 2013 Good Angels also help children with other serious and life-threatening diseases, and from June 2021 also adult patients. The help was extended after the vote of the Good Angels, who opened their hearts to other families with a sick child or parent. Parents often have ALS, multiple sclerosis and other serious illnesses (leading to organ transplantation, for example), or long-term health consequences of a serious injury. In pediatric patients, it can be, for example – Duchenne muscular dystrophy, epidermolysis bullosa, severe hereditary metabolic disorders, acute organ failure, or children with serious complications after childbirth or after serious injury. How can I send my contribution?
Donors may make contributions by direct deposit into GOOD ANGEL’s account, No. 8001008/5500, either on a one-time basis, or through a standing payment order. A debit card can also be used for payment. If you are a T-Mobile client, you can become a Good Angel through your operator. For detailed information on how contributions can be made, please see the section entitled “How To Help”.
Can I send my contribution as late as the last day of the month, when I get paid?
A donor, Good Angel, may remit funds at any time. The contributions are re-distributed once a month, after the closing date, on the first business day of the following month. All of the funds received from donors, Good Angels, in the course of a given month are re-distributed to recipients on the first business day of the following month. However, if you send your financial contribution on the last day of the month, we generally tend to only receive it on the first day of the following month, and your contribution will then only be re-distributed at the end of the new month.
Can I send contributions sporadically? My situation does not allow me to contribute every month.
Yes, the GOOD ANGEL system is set up in such a way that it is possible to send contributions sporadically. If you decide to discontinue your assistance, you simply stop sending contributions. In the GOOD ANGEL system, you do not commit to contribute a specific amount, or to contribute for a specific period of time. You undertake no obligation by registering. It is all entirely up to you.
Let’s say that I will be contributing CZK 100 per month. What happens if I lose my job and am no longer able to send money?
In that case, the recipient who used to receive your contribution would automatically be allocated a new donor, Good Angel, who stated in the questionnaire that their contribution could be given to any recipient, and thus any potential deficit caused by your exit from the system would be covered. You can naturally return to the system at any time, once your situation allows.
What is the minimum and maximum contribution? Does the donor set the amount of the contribution themself?
We have recently done away with the minimum limit, because we know that any amount, down to the last cent, can be helpful. There is also no maximum limit. The donor always determines the amount that they wish to send.
Is it possible to only assist a family affected by an oncological illness?
Yes. We respect your personal decision. If you wish to only continue supporting families in which a child or parent is suffering from cancer, please advise us of your preference at [email protected]. We will permanently allocate your contribution to a family suffering from financial distress due to an oncological illness. Your financial contributions will thus go to the same family every month. If, at any time, you wish to change your preference, simply write to us again.
Can I get to know the people I am helping? I would like to see exactly where my financial contribution is going.
Every donor, Good Angel, will see the recipient’s contact information, as well as basic information concerning the recipient’s family situation and health status. We expect the recipients to update us at certain intervals (approx. 6 months) about new developments and their current situation. The donor will see the information when they log in to their Good Angel personal account by entering in their personal number and password at www.dobryandel.cz. It is entirely up to the donor, Good Angel, whether they wish to contact the recipient personally, and whether a more personal relationship will form between them. However, we would recommend that you initiate any personal contact by first writing an e-mail to or calling the recipient on the phone out of respect for the difficult time that the recipient is going through.
Can I help in some other way, not just financially?
In addition to a regular monthly contribution, you can be extremely helpful to us by telling your friends and acquaintances about the GOOD ANGEL system. If you would like to find new Good Angels, please write to us and we will send you informational brochures that you can distribute. We are convinced that good people certainly know lots of other good people around.
